Able Noise, a duo based in The Hague, Netherlands, and Athens, Greece, has announced the release of their debut album, “High Tide,” scheduled for 1 November 2024 on the World of Echo label. The duo, consisting of George Knegtel and Alex Andropoulos, combines experimental baritone guitar and drum performances. They formed Able Noise in 2017 after meeting at The Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague and connecting over shared interests in art and performance.
Their initial recorded work, a 30-minute piece characterized by post-rock elements, was released as a cassette in 2020 by Glasgow’s GLARC label. A track titled “To Appease” was later included in World of Echo’s “Thorn Valley” compilation. The band has since toured extensively across Europe and participated in various festivals, ultimately leading them to return to the studio to record their first full-length album.
Originally conceptualized as a live band, Able Noise focused on creating performances that challenge traditional live music settings, incorporating the unique characteristics of each venue, such as acoustics and audience interaction, into their performances. Their live shows are described as physically dynamic and adaptable to the context of each performance.

For the recording of “High Tide,” the duo explored new creative avenues in the studio, different from their live performances. Without the presence of a live audience, the recording process presented new challenges, particularly in translating improvisational elements into a recorded format. The album marks a departure from their minimalist live performances, embracing a more intricate and layered approach made possible by studio techniques like multi-tracking and post-production.
The album also features contributions from various musicians from the Athenian music scene and others connected to the duo through their UK performances. These collaborators were given creative freedom during the recording sessions, with the understanding that their contributions would be altered in the final mix. The resulting tracks feature a combination of musicians, ranging from duos to sextets, each bringing a different dynamic to the recordings.
Despite the collaborative and creative nature of the recording process, “High Tide” also reflects a darker theme of inertia, capturing the tension between different forces and the inevitable influence of external realities. The album grapples with themes of social and political turmoil, technological obsolescence, and the passage of time, without offering definitive answers but instead presenting a unique artistic perspective on these issues.

The album tracklisting is as follows:
Side A:
To Appease
Crickets
Providence
Side B:
4. Boycott
5. Tumbling
6. Inertia
7. Ceaseless Sun
8. Garden
9. To Two
10. Violence
The album was written and performed by Able Noise. It was recorded and mixed by Able Noise with Sotiris Ziliaskopoulos, and additional recording for the track “Violence” was done by Mike O’Malley. The mastering was completed by Noel Summerville.
Able Noise is scheduled to perform live in London at EartH on 16 November 2023, where they will be joined by the Tara Clerkin Trio.
