Able Noise Release New Track “Ceaseless Sun” Ahead of Debut Album “High Tide”

The duo Able Noise, based between The Hague (Netherlands) and Athens (Greece), has released a new track titled “Ceaseless Sun” from their upcoming debut album High Tide. The album is scheduled for release on 1 November 2024 via World of Echo. The release marks a significant step for the duo, comprising George and Alex, who have been working together since 2017. Their latest track draws inspiration from the novel by Margarita Karapanou, where the narrative explores the unsettling phenomenon of a sun that never sets, creating an increasingly tense atmosphere among the inhabitants of the island in the story.

Able Noise initially formed while both members were studying at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. Their early work was released in 2020, consisting of a 30-minute post-rock composition issued as a cassette through the GLARC label. Following this, their track “To Appease” was featured on World of Echo’s Thorn Valley compilation. Over the years, the duo has performed across Europe, gaining recognition through live shows and participation in various festivals, which eventually led to the production of High Tide.

Although Able Noise originally focused on live performances, their transition to a studio-based environment has expanded their creative horizons. High Tide represents a shift from their minimalist live approach to a more complex, layered sound, enabled by studio techniques such as multi-tracking and post-production. The album departs from their usual improvisational style, exploring new textures and structures. Contributing musicians, including Alex McKenzie (clarinet) and Magdalena McLean (violin), added their input to this collaborative process.

Thematically, High Tide addresses darker concepts such as inertia, the inevitability of time, and the challenges of navigating a rapidly changing world. The duo reflects on the coexistence of conflicting forces, both in their music and in life, without offering definitive solutions but presenting creative interpretations of these experiences.

Live Performances

The band will perform several live dates, starting on 16 November 2024 at EartH in London, where they will share the stage with the Tara Clerkin Trio. In 2025, Able Noise will begin a tour, launching at Café OTO in London on 13 February with Jon Collin, followed by performances across various cities in the UK, including Liverpool, Oxford, Bristol, Cardiff, and Margate.

About the Duo

George and Alex, the core members of Able Noise, met at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague and have since developed a close creative partnership. Their work spans various media, focusing on the intersection of music, art, and live performance. Initially, their output was characterized by a minimalist approach with a focus on live improvisation. However, with the recording of High Tide, they have explored more structured, studio-based compositions that incorporate contributions from their wider musical community.
