Los Angeles quartet releases fourth full-length via The Flenser on October 3, 2025
Agriculture will release The Spiritual Sound on 3 October 2025 through The Flenser. The album runs in two parts: side A pushes through noise and catharsis, side B slows into something more devotional. The record was written by Dan Meyer and Leah Levinson, with contributions from Richard Chowenhill on guitar and Kern Haug on drums. Chowenhill produced.

Meyer‘s songs move through Zen Buddhism and historical rupture. Levinson‘s material draws from queer history and AIDS-era literature, written with attention to collective memory rather than personal mythology. The two approaches share a structure but arrive from different starting points. The record does not separate their contributions—it folds them together.
The band began as a project between Haug and Meyer in the Los Angeles noise scene. Chowenhill and Levinson joined later. Their 2022 album The Circle Chant established the band’s use of black metal as a foundation. The self-titled record in 2023 expanded the palette. Living Is Easy, released in 2024, introduced clearer melodic and rhythmic frameworks.
Songs are brought to the group incomplete. Meyer and Levinson write the initial material, then the band dismantles it. Chowenhill adds guitar lines and solos. Haug builds rhythms that sometimes sit outside conventional time signatures. The final arrangements are worked out in the studio through repetition and adjustment. The process is slow and often frustrating, according to the band.
