Shakespeare-inspired single Last Scene Of All previews Edvard Graham Lewis’s Alreet
Edvard Graham Lewis, bassist and vocalist of Wire, will release his new solo album, Alreet?, on January 24, 2025, through Upp Records. The album combines experimental pop elements with layered melodies, rhythmic patterns, and electronic textures, accompanied by lyrics that alternate between sung and spoken delivery. The title, drawn from a colloquial North Eastern English greeting, contrasts with the tension and dramatic undertones of the music. Alreet? features collaborations with Swedish producer and musician Max Lorentz, as well as contributions from Matthew Simms and Robert Grey, members of Wire. Additional instrumentation includes cello by Kevin Kirs Vestege, hurdy-gurdy by Harald Pettersson, and sampled guitar parts from former Wire member Bruce Gilbert.
The album’s single, “Last Scene Of All,” integrates text from Shakespeare’s As You Like It and The Tempest. Delivered over driving beats and sharp guitar motifs, the track constructs a vivid soundscape. The lyrics highlight Lewis’s skill in repurposing Shakespearean text into a cohesive narrative.

Edvard Graham Lewis, born in 1953, is an English musician, lyricist, and artist best recognized for his work with the post-punk band Wire, which formed in 1976. As a key member of the group, Lewis contributed bass, vocals, and lyrics to albums that helped define the post-punk movement, including Pink Flag (1977) and Chairs Missing (1978). Beyond Wire, his creative output includes solo albums under his own name and the aliases He Said and H-A-L-O.
In collaboration with Wire’s Bruce Gilbert, Lewis produced experimental music under the name Dome, releasing five albums between 1980 and 1983. His solo work often explores industrial, electronic, and experimental sounds. He has also contributed scores for documentaries, dance performances, and art installations, reflecting his multidisciplinary interests. Lewis has collaborated with musicians such as Mike Watt, Ted Milton, and Jean-Louis Huhta.
Alreet? emphasizes Lewis’s continuous evolution as an artist. The album reflects his interest in exploring new musical approaches, supported by Lorentz’s co-production. The tracklist includes eight songs:
