Anika releases Walk Away ahead of Abyss album out April 4th via Sacred Bones Records

Annika Henderson, the British-born musician based in Berlin, has released a new single, “Walk Away,” from her upcoming album Abyss, set for release on April 4th through Sacred Bones Records. The album follows her previous work and was recorded live at Hansa Studios in Berlin.

“Walk Away” is the second single from Abyss, following “Hearsay.” The track incorporates elements of 1990s alternative rock and features direct lyrics, including lines that express frustration and detachment. The song’s accompanying video, directed by Laura Martinova, was filmed in an ex-brothel in Berlin and explores themes of femininity, sexuality, and autonomy.

Abyss consists of ten tracks and was recorded live to tape in a few days at Hansa Studios, where artists such as David Bowie and Depeche Mode have also recorded. The decision to record live, with minimal overdubs, was intended to capture an unfiltered and immediate sound. The album was developed in collaboration with Martin Thulin of Exploded View, with contributions from drummer Andrea Belfi, bassist Tomas Nochteff (Mueran Humanos), and guitarist Lawrence Goodwin (The Pleasure Majenta). Studio engineering was handled by Nanni Johansson and Frida Claeson Johansson.

Annika Henderson is a musician, poet, and former political journalist. Born in the United Kingdom, she relocated to Berlin, where she became involved in the city’s music scene. Her debut self-titled album was released in 2010 and was produced by Geoff Barrow of Portishead. Henderson has been associated with the band Exploded View, with whom she has recorded multiple albums. In addition to her music career, she has worked in spoken word and experimental sound projects, collaborating with various artists and producers. Her work often incorporates themes related to social and political issues, and she has performed internationally in a range of venues and festivals.

Tour Dates

Anika will tour across Europe and the UK in support of Abyss, with performances scheduled in Germany, France, Belgium, the UK, Ireland, and Switzerland. The tour includes stops in London, Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, Belfast, Dublin, and Brighton, among other cities.
