Two Xmal Deutschland remixes by No More released ahead of Anja Huwe’s comeback

Anja Huwe, the frontwoman of the post-punk band Xmal Deutschland, has announced her return to live performances, starting with the upcoming Grauzone Festival in February 2025 in the Netherlands. This will be Huwe’s first live appearance in years, following a period focused on her visual arts career.

In addition to the performance announcement, two remixes of early Xmal Deutschland singles have been released. The tracks, “Die Wolken” and “Schwarze Welt,” have been remixed by the German band No More, best known for their song “Suicide Commando.” The remix of “Die Wolken” presents a minimalist electro version of the original, while maintaining post-punk influences. In contrast, the remix of “Schwarze Welt” introduces a slower, trip-hop rhythm, integrating atmospheric elements with the song’s punk origins.

Xmal Deutschland, known for their releases on labels such as 4AD, gained attention in the 1980s for their post-punk sound. After stepping away from music, Huwe pursued a career in visual arts. In early 2024, she returned to music with the release of her solo album Codes, which was accompanied by reissues of Xmal Deutschland’s early singles.

Her performance at Grauzone Festival will feature material from her solo album Codes and new interpretations of Xmal Deutschland songs. The lineup of the band for these performances will be announced soon. Additionally, Huwe will incorporate her visual art into these live shows.
