Minimalist techno and dissonant textures mark her April 2025 release

Annie-Claude Deschênes has released a new single, Main de Fer, through Italians Do It Better and Bonsound. The track follows last year’s full-length Les Manières de Table and continues her current work outside of group formats.

Deschênes has been active in Montreal’s underground scenes since the early 2000s, first with Duchess Says, and later with PyPy. Both groups drew on synth-punk, no wave, and confrontational performance, often positioned in opposition to linearity or stage conventions. Her roles in both bands frequently crossed between voice, synth, and visual staging. The solo material strips much of that out, but does not replace it with coherence or clarity — instead, fragmentation appears to be the point.

Across her career, Deschênes has performed alongside acts including Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, The Hives, Buzzcocks, The Hot Snakes, and The Black Lips, with appearances spanning clubs, art venues, and festivals. Her stage presence has often incorporated repetition, controlled discomfort, and visual obstruction.

Born and based in Montreal, Annie-Claude Deschênes is also active as a visual artist. Her work outside music includes installation, costuming, and scenography.
