Helmet is an American alternative metal band formed in New York City in 1989 by vocalist and guitarist Page Hamilton. Known for their precise, heavy riffing and use of drop-D tuning, Helmet introduced a unique, minimalist approach to metal with their influential albums Meantime (1992) and Betty (1994). The band’s fusion of hard-hitting, rhythmic guitar work with elements of post-hardcore and noise rock has left a lasting impact on alternative metal, influencing a generation of bands in the genre.
