Artist: Joy Division
Joy Division was a British post-punk band formed in 1976 in Salford, Greater Manchester, by vocalist Ian Curtis, guitarist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris. Known for their dark, brooding sound and introspective lyrics, the band released two influential albums, Unknown Pleasures (1979) and Closer (1980), which defined the post-punk era. Curtis’s haunting vocal style and the band’s minimal, atmospheric arrangements explored themes of alienation, depression, and existential despair. After Curtis’s death in 1980, the remaining members continued as New Order, cementing Joy Division’s legacy in alternative music history.
