Artist: Richard Bishop

Sir Richard Bishop is a guitarist and composer born in Saginaw, Michigan in 1960. He co-founded the experimental group Sun City Girls, active from the early 1980s until 2007, alongside Charles Gocher and Alan Bishop. After more than two decades with the group, he began a solo career, performing internationally and releasing works that span American Primitive guitar, Middle Eastern tonalities, and improvised forms. His solo debut Salvador Kali was issued in 1998 by Revenant Records, the label founded by John Fahey. Bishop’s extensive discography includes releases on labels such as Locust Music, Southern Records, VDSQ, Unrock, Editions Mego, and Drag City, where his recent work continues to appear. His performances often emphasize improvisation and stripped-down technique, favoring direct expression over refinement.
