Artist: The Cramps
The Cramps were an American rock band formed in 1976 in New York City by guitarist Poison Ivy (Kristy Wallace) and vocalist Lux Interior (Erick Purkhiser). Known for their fusion of punk rock and rockabilly, often referred to as psychobilly, The Cramps drew from horror B-movies, early rock and roll, and retro aesthetics, creating a sound and image that stood out in the late 1970s and 1980s underground scene. Their debut album, Songs the Lord Taught Us (1980), and follow-up, Psychedelic Jungle (1981), embody their darkly theatrical style. The Cramps remained a significant influence on punk and alternative music until disbanding in 2009, following Lux Interior’s passing.
