BC Camplight’s new record lands on 27 June through Bella Union
BC Camplight, the project of Brian Christinzio, has released Where You Taking My Baby?, taken from the upcoming album A Sober Conversation, due 27 June 2025 via Bella Union. The song follows Two Legged Dog, which features Abigail Morris of The Last Dinner Party, and continues the shift toward more direct autobiographical material.

The new track occupies the midpoint of the album and references abuse Christinzio experienced during childhood at a summer camp in New Jersey. Unlike earlier works, which addressed the incident obliquely, this song names the perpetrator and engages the subject with clarity shaped by recent sobriety. Christinzio has stated that the decision to write it coincided with a confrontation of long-avoided memories.
A Sober Conversation was written during a period of psychological recalibration. The songs revisit traumatic material while maintaining his characteristic compositional structure—melodic piano foundations, abrupt tonal changes, and alternating lyrical registers. Christinzio has described the record as an outcome of opening a door that had remained closed for three decades.
Christinzio began releasing music as BC Camplight in the mid-2000s, debuting with Hide, Run Away (2005) and Blink of a Nihilist (2007) on One Little Indian. During this time, he collaborated with musicians who would later join The War on Drugs, and contributed piano to Sharon Van Etten’s 2010 album Epic. Despite favourable press, the early albums did not lead to commercial stability. Christinzio left the label and nearly withdrew from music.
In 2012, after relocating to Manchester, he resumed recording. Bella Union issued How to Die in the North in 2015, followed by Deportation Blues (2018) and Shortly After Takeoff (2020). These albums formed an informal trilogy, each centered on instability—legal, psychological, and emotional. Immigration issues led to his removal from the UK in 2015, though he later returned under Italian citizenship acquired through ancestry.
In 2023, Christinzio released The Last Rotation of Earth, written in the aftermath of a relationship collapse. The record entered the UK Albums Chart at no. 31 and was followed by both solo and full-band tours. The lineup included long-time collaborators Adam Dawson, Luke Barton, Francesca Pidgeon, Thom Bellini, and new member Jolan Lewis.
The upcoming tour in support of A Sober Conversation includes venues such as London’s Roundhouse and Manchester’s O2 Apollo, currently the largest scheduled shows in his catalogue.

His recordings frequently address personal collapse, grief, and existential detachment. Alongside his solo output, he has appeared as a collaborator and session musician with artists including The War on Drugs and Sharon Van Etten. His live performances and recordings often involve recurring band members and shifting instrumentation.
