My Love Remains the Same from Bonnie Trash features new track “Red Right Hand”

Bonnie Trash recently released a music video for their rendition of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds‘ track, “Red Right Hand,” reimagining the song with a heavy, foreboding tone. The cover appears on their latest EP, My Love Remains the Same, available through Hand Drawn Dracula. The video, inspired by filmmaker John Carpenter, uses dark, atmospheric visuals to capture the song’s ominous themes.

Bonnie Trash is a musical project from Guelph, Ontario, fronted by twin sisters Emmalia and Sarafina Bortolon-Vettor, who create a sound blending shoegaze, post-punk, and drone elements. Their influences span Black Sabbath, PJ Harvey, and Slowdive, weaving a style marked by heavy riffs and reflective lyrics. Originally a duo, the project expanded with the inclusion of Emma Howarth-Withers on bass and Dana Bellamy on drums, contributing to a more layered and textured sound that characterizes the recent EP.

The EP My Love Remains the Same delves into themes of love and loss, introduced by the initial single, “Kisses Goodbye.” The final track, “Red Right Hand,” reinterprets the well-known Nick Cave composition.

The Bortolon-Vettor sisters began exploring heavy themes early on, drawing on social issues, supernatural concepts, and family folklore. Their 2017 EP, Ezzelini’s Dead, told the story of Ezzelino III da Romano, a 13th-century ruler from their family’s hometown of San Zenone degli Ezzelini. For this release, they incorporated field recordings in the Veneto dialect spoken by their relatives. Their subsequent albums, Malocchio (2022) and Hail, Hale! (2023), expand on these influences by addressing real horror stories from their Italian heritage, especially the concept of the malocchio or “evil eye.”

Released by Hand Drawn Dracula, these recordings offer a continuation of Bonnie Trash’s exploration of dark narratives, with My Love Remains the Same bringing these themes into a personal context.
