The album’s title, Mansuetude—meaning “gentleness” or “meekness”—is seen as a contrast to the extreme nature of the band’s sound. According to Robinson, the album explores complex emotional states, touching on darker elements of the human experience. Buñuel’s music draws from a range of genres, including noise rock, post-hardcore, avant-noise, and post-industrial, blending influences from various styles to create a unique sonic landscape.

The band’s drummer, Franz Valente, emphasized the connection between the band’s name and the surrealism of Luis Buñuel, the famous Spanish filmmaker. He explained that the band seeks to transport listeners to a space that blurs the boundaries between dream and reality. Robinson added that the band’s music delves into themes related to personal secrets and human instincts, aiming to communicate something fundamental about human nature.
