Claire M Singer to Perform in Forgue Kirk and Present Audiovisual Work at Kings Place

Composer and performer Claire M Singer will return to Forgue Kirk in Aberdeenshire for a special concert on Saturday, 19 October 2024. This performance, organized by the Friends of Forgue Kirk, marks a return to the site where she recorded her 2023 album Saor (Touch). Singer will perform works adapted for the 1872 Conacher organ, an important historical instrument donated by Walter Scott of Glendronach distillery. The concert is free to attend, with donations encouraged to support the preservation of the church and its organ.

Singer, known for her work in acoustic and electronic music, as well as film and installations, frequently incorporates influences from Scotland’s landscapes. Her compositions have been performed at prestigious venues, including Queen Elizabeth Hall, Glasgow Cathedral, Tate Modern, and the Barbican.

The following day, on Sunday, 20 October 2024, Singer’s 2006 audiovisual work a’ fàs soilleir will be presented at Kings Place in London by sound artist Peter Sollery. This previously unreleased piece will be featured in an event dedicated to exploring the connections between Scottish composers and the concept of place.

Singer has received several awards, including the Oram Award in 2017 for her innovative work in sound and the Festival Castell de Peralada Award in 2019 for her score for the film Tell It To The Bees. Her composition Gleann Ciùin, commissioned by the London Contemporary Orchestra, was nominated for an Ivor Novello Award in 2020. In 2022, she collaborated with Chris Watson for a project involving organ, orchestra, and choir, premiering at her festival Organ Reframed at Union Chapel, where she has served as Music Director since 2012.
