Born and raised in the Lot Valley in rural France, Clara Mann moved to the United Kingdom during her teenage years. Her upbringing in a tranquil French environment provided her with a foundation for creative and introspective work. This environment, combined with her subsequent experiences in the UK, has significantly influenced her music and art.

Mann’s artistic output extends beyond music to include visual arts, where she employs mediums such as ink, charcoal, and watercolor. These visual practices inform her songwriting process, creating a connection between her music and other creative expressions.

Rift was recorded primarily at 4AD Studios in London, with production and mixing handled by Fabian Prynn (associated with artists like Martha Skye Murphy and Ex:Re). Two tracks, “It Only Hurts” and the title track “Rift,” were recorded in an informal setting at the home studio of her friend Tom Kellett. The themes of Rift focus on emotional fractures, resilience, and hope.
