Description: French-British chanteuse Clémentine March announces 'Powder Keg' album for January 2026 via PRAH Recordings with live 'After The Solstice' single.
Clémentine March relocated from France to London in 2016, establishing herself as a bassist across multiple projects including Snapped Ankles, Dana Gavanski, Alabaster dePlume, BAS JAN, Blue House, Rozi Plain, Naima Bock and Haha Sounds Collective. She characterises herself as “an alt-rock teenager from the 90s” while maintaining a background in classical guitar and Brazilian musical traditions, having spent two years in Brazil during her twenties absorbing choro and samba forms. Her previous albums ‘Le Continent’ and ‘Songs of Resilience’ appeared on Lost Map Records.
The ‘After The Solstice’ track originated during touring periods with Naima Bock. March positions the song as an examination of memory and déjà vu experiences, constructing what amounts to the album’s opening statement through a convergence of Stereolab, The Raincoats and Cate Le Bon reference points.
‘Powder Keg’ takes its title from a Bonnie Tyler lyric within ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’. March completed the writing process during summer 2023, subsequently entering the studio as a trio with Ollie Chapman on bass and Sophie Lowe on drums. Joe Futák, who has produced Tapir!, handled co-production duties.
The album features contributions from Naima Bock, Sophie Jamieson, Katy J Pearson, MF Tomlinson, Alabaster DePlume, Dana Gavanski, Evelyn Gray from Tapir!, and Wilf Cartwright, also from Tapir!. The musical scope spans jazz, folk, Brazilian forms, 90s alternative rock, disco and krautrock frameworks.
‘Upheaval’ functions as the album’s second track, constructed around punk elements and motorik rhythms as March‘s tribute to her teenage alternative rock consumption including Pavement, Hüsker Dü and Nirvana. ‘Lixo Sentimental’ switches to Portuguese lyrics in homage to Brazilian pop figure Rita Lee, incorporating DIY jazz pop arrangements that reference Astrud Gilberto and Isabelle Antena.
The disco-oriented ‘Fireworks’ stems from a Green Man Festival encounter, drawing on Chic, Hercules & Love Affair, David Bowie‘s ‘Sound & Vision’ and Sophie Ellis-Bextor‘s ‘Murder on the Dance Floor’. Evelyn Gray provides vocal contributions across the track.
‘Powder Keg’ will be available on bio black vinyl and digital formats from January 9, 2026.
