The track draws on specific reference points. March cites Paul and Linda McCartney’s RAM album and Stevie Wonder’s album finales as models for the song’s progressive structure. Lyrics took partial inspiration from Naima Bock‘s track ‘Takes One’. The self-directed video pairs black and white film footage with documentation from the recording sessions.
Powder Keg arrives 9th January 2026 through PRAH Recordings. March wrote the material in summer 2023 and recorded it that October as a trio with Ollie Chapman on bass and Sophie Lowe on drums. Joe Futák, who produced work for Tapir!, co-produced the sessions. The album includes contributions from Bock, Katy J Pearson, MF Tomlinson, Alabaster DePlume, Dana Gavanski, Sophie Jamieson, Evelyn Gray from Tapir!, and Wilf Cartwright, also from Tapir!.
March is a London-based multi-instrumentalist and composer who works between French and English languages. Her first album Le Continent and second album Songs of Resilience preceded this release. Powder Keg incorporates jazz, folk, Brazilian music, disco and krautrock into its arrangements, with March handling multiple instruments across the recordings.
