Description: Cosey Fanni Tutti shares new track Never The Same from upcoming solo album 2t2 out 13 June via Conspiracy International
2t2 contains nine tracks composed, performed, and produced entirely by Cosey. The album follows TUTTI (2019) and continues her method of structuring sound as both personal document and formal inquiry. The material was developed during a period marked by loss and personal upheaval, but Cosey’s focus remains inward. There is no linear narrative, though the album is structured in two parts — one percussive, the other subdued — with thematic repetition emerging across both.
The track Threnody directly references Cosey’s past engagements with the work of Delia Derbyshire, a subject of both her 2022 soundtrack album and the Caroline Catz film Delia Derbyshire: The Myths and the Legendary Tapes. It is also dedicated to Derbyshire’s associate Andy Christian, who sent Cosey a drawing with the same title. The piece stems from a documented evening in which Christian improvised visual work while Derbyshire responded vocally.
Cosey has described her overtone vocal techniques on tracks like Stound in terms of interior focus and physical engagement with sound. No additional collaborators are credited on 2t2, and the production was handled in isolation. References to her book RE-SISTERS and earlier compositions reappear intermittently throughout the record.
The album’s artwork, which Cosey refers to as a “sound cameo,” is built around the idea of inner motion rather than exterior image.
Cosey Fanni Tutti (born Christine Carol Newby) is a British musician, performance artist and writer. She co-founded Throbbing Gristle in 1975, alongside Genesis P-Orridge, Chris Carter, and Peter Christopherson, contributing to the development of industrial music. After TG’s initial dissolution in 1981, she continued working with Chris Carter as Chris & Cosey, later transitioning into Carter Tutti. Her solo work extends across sound, text, performance, and installation. Her first solo album Time To Tell was originally released in 1983. Her publications include Art Sex Music (2017) and RE-SISTERS (2022), both published by Faber. Her work has often intersected with critical discourses on body, sexuality, and control.
