Acoustic European tour features The Bride Ship by Crime and the City Solution
Crime & the City Solution has released a new acoustic version of the track “The Bride Ship” in preparation for their upcoming European acoustic tour in November and December 2024. This acoustic ensemble features Simon Bonney (vocals), Bronwyn Adams (violin and vocals), and Joshua Murphy (acoustic guitar and vocals), performing reinterpreted acoustic versions of songs from the band’s catalog.

The tour will begin on 27 November 2024 in Graz and conclude on 11 December 2024 in Berlin, which serves as the current base for the band. The performances aim to highlight the stripped-down arrangements and intimacy of the songs, as they were originally conceived. Additionally, the concerts will include individual solo sets by Bronwyn Adams and/or Joshua Murphy.
Crime & the City Solution recently ended a decade-long hiatus with the release of their sixth studio album, “the killer,” via Mute Records. This album, influenced by Simon Bonney’s experience in humanitarian aid work, examines the manifestations of conflict in daily life. Notable tracks include “Rivers of Blood,” “Brave Hearted Woman,” “Peace in My Time,” and “Witness.”
Simon Bonney formed Crime & the City Solution in Sydney in 1977 at the age of 16. The group’s initial performances from 1977 to 1979 significantly influenced Melbourne’s emerging art-punk and post-punk scene. In 1984, Mick Harvey of The Bad Seeds brought Bonney to London, where the band’s lineup included Rowland S. Howard (guitar), Harry Howard (bass), and Epic Soundtracks (drums). This London-based incarnation gained attention, notably appearing in Wim Wenders’ film Wings of Desire.
Following the dissolution of the London lineup, Crime & the City Solution reformed in Berlin. This phase produced albums such as “Shine” (1988), “The Bride Ship” (1989), and “Paradise Discotheque” (1990), all of which were recently reissued by Mute Records alongside the live album “The Adversary.” After disbanding again, the group returned in 2013 with “American Twilight,” recorded in Detroit, which drew commentary for its thematic exploration of societal and political decline.
In addition to the new acoustic project, Crime & the City Solution has released a book of selected lyrics titled “Love in a Time of Violence” through Heartworm Press.
The acoustic reworking of “The Bride Ship” offers a fresh perspective on the 1989 track, emphasizing the intimate collaboration between Bonney, Adams, and Murphy.
