David Grubbs Releases New Single “Queen’s Side Eye” Ahead of Upcoming Album

David Grubbs has announced the release of his latest album, Whistle from Above, set to be available on February 28, 2025, through Drag City. This follows the release of the album’s first single, “The Snake on Its Tail,” which premiered in December 2024. A second single, “Queen’s Side Eye,” has now been made available. The single “Queen’s Side Eye” features contributions from Cleek Schrey on ten-string fiddle and Nate Wooley on trumpet.

Whistle from Above was developed following Gastr del Sol’s retrospective compilation in 2024. For this release, Grubbs collaborated with multiple musicians, including Rhodri Davies, Andrea Belfi, Nikos Veliotis, Nate Wooley, and Cleek Schrey. The album consists of solo compositions that integrate interactions with these artists.

David Grubbs is a musician, composer, and writer with a background spanning multiple genres, including experimental and post-rock. He was a member of Gastr del Sol, an influential project in the 1990s, and has collaborated with various artists across different fields, including improvisational and avant-garde music. He has released numerous solo albums and has worked with figures such as Jim O’Rourke, Will Oldham, and Tony Conrad. In addition to his work in music, Grubbs is also active in academia, serving as a professor at Brooklyn College, City University of New York. He has written extensively on sound and experimental music, with published works that analyze the intersection of music and text.
