Detroit trio Battle Elf announce 10 arriving in May 2025

Album 10 by Battle Elf brings together members of Infinite River and Racehorses Are Resources

Battle Elf is a Detroit-based trio composed of Gretchen Gonzales, Chris Peters, and David Hurley. Their debut album, titled 10, will be released on 2 May 2025 through Birdman Records in limited vinyl and digital formats.

The group includes guitarist Gretchen Gonzales, who has performed with Universal Indians (alongside John Olson of Wolf Eyes), Infinite River, and Seedsmen to the World. Guitarist Chris Peters has collaborated with Quelle Chris in Racehorses Are Resources, and drummer David Hurley has been involved in the project Panto Collapsar. Together, they work within a framework of improvised compositions, incorporating elements of krautrock, psychedelia, and experimental music.

Gretchen Gonzales Davidson is a musician based in Detroit, Michigan. She has participated in several experimental and psychedelic projects, including Universal Indians, which included John Olson of Wolf Eyes. She is also a member of Infinite River and Seedsmen to the World, projects linked to the city’s acid folk and underground rock circles. Gonzales has been involved in Detroit’s music and cultural institutions, including serving on the board of the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and participating in regional efforts to preserve and present the city’s cultural heritage. Her involvement in various projects connects her with the extended community of artists influenced by experimental rock, free improvisation, and avant-garde traditions.
