Dragon Welding Release Video for Explosive Track Start Believing Start Living The Lie

Start Believing Start Living The Lie showcases Dragon Welding’s abrasive side

A new video for the explosive song Start Believing Start Living The Lie has been released by Dragon Welding, the project of Andrew Golding, co-founder and guitarist of The Wolfhounds. The track appears on The Naughty Step, the group’s fourth album and the first to feature vocals by Nik Cockshott, previously of The Spores and The Keatons. The video was shot across locations in Romford and Manchester and contrasts with the visual minimalism of the earlier Hiding Things For Fun clip.

Dragon Welding The Naughty Step
Title: The Naughty Step
Artist: Dragon Welding
Release Date: 2025-05-02
Genres: Alternative Rock, Indie Rock, Noise Rock, Post-punk
Label: Dimple Discs
Description: Dragon Welding share video for Start Believing Start Living The Lie from The Naughty Step album out now via Dimple Discs.

The song leans into denser rhythms and sharper electronics than other material on the album, which otherwise oscillates between instrumental interludes and more structured song formats. The new line-up emerged after a last-minute vocalist substitution during a 2023 live performance, after which Cockshott became a permanent addition. The Naughty Step was completed before his move from London to Manchester, but the pair have since continued working remotely.

The album includes ten tracks, among them Up And Away, We Dance Among You, and Come On Flat Earthling. It also features The Naughty Step, accompanied at launch by a stop-motion video created by graphic artist Andy Royston, who also produced the cover artwork.

Released via Dimple Discs, The Naughty Step follows previous Dragon Welding releases: a self-titled debut (2019), the instrumental Lights Behind The Eyes (2021), and Fictionary (2023). The last included collaborations with Anthony Chapman (Collapsed Lung) and Alice Golding (The Othyrs), both associated with Golding’s extended network through the label.

Dragon Welding’s recent output includes These Are Dangerous Times, a reworking of a 2019 track from the debut album, effectively reintroducing the project’s trajectory post-lineup change. The group continues to perform live and is reportedly working on a follow-up album.

Andrew Golding, born in Essex, is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, best known for his work with The Wolfhounds, a band formed in 1984 and associated with the C86 compilation by NME. After the group’s initial split in 1990, Golding pursued various musical directions before reactivating The Wolfhounds in the 2010s alongside his solo and collaborative output under the Dragon Welding alias.

The album is available on vinyl, CD, and digital formats through Dimple Discs.
