Dragon Welding adds a new video to The Naughty Step released by Dimple Discs in 2024
Dragon Welding has released a new video for the track “Hiding Things For Fun”, taken from their fourth album The Naughty Step, issued via Dimple Discs. The album introduces Nik Cockshott as vocalist, joining founding member Andrew Golding, who previously played with The Wolfhounds. The new video follows earlier releases for the album’s title track, “We Dance Among You,” and “Up and Away.”

The project Dragon Welding was initially a solo endeavor by Andrew Golding, with the name being an anagram of his own. Golding co-founded the Essex-based group The Wolfhounds, active since the 1980s and associated with the indie noise-pop genre. In 2023, Cockshott performed with Golding during a live event. The collaboration continued into the studio, resulting in the 2024 single “These Are Dangerous Times”, a reinterpretation of Dragon Welding’s debut track originally released in 2019. This single marked a transition from solo project to a duo format.
Nik Cockshott previously performed with The Spores and The Keatons, both positioned within alternative and experimental rock circuits. His addition to Dragon Welding coincided with a stylistic shift incorporating vocals into what had previously been largely instrumental releases.
The album includes contributions from other artists. Andy Royston, a graphic artist, created the animation for the title track’s video and designed the album cover. Earlier releases include the debut Dragon Welding (2019), followed by the instrumental Lights Behind The Eyes (2021) and Fictionary (2023). The latter featured Anthony Chapman of Collapsed Lung and Alice Golding of The Othyrs.
The song “Hiding Things For Fun” presents a slower pace compared to earlier tracks from the same album. It is available across digital platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp, with physical formats distributed through Rough Trade, Amazon, and Resident Records.
Andrew Golding, active since the 1980s, is a British multi-instrumentalist and composer. He co-founded The Wolfhounds, part of the C86 scene associated with the UK indie label NME. The group contributed to the 1986 C86 cassette, a compilation that played a significant role in defining British indie music during that period. Golding played guitar and keyboards in the band, contributing to its sound that mixed melodic songwriting with noise-driven textures. After the group’s initial split in the 1990s, Golding continued working on various projects before launching Dragon Welding in 2019. His solo work combines experimental electronics, unconventional song structures, and references to ecological and social issues.
