New single Free Gaff by Mayfield Sound out March 21 with contributions from Aidan Given

Mayfield Sound, Dublin-based music project led by Darragh McCauley, will release the single Free Gaff on March 21. The song follows previous releases Make It Better, Doghouse, and I’m With You.

Free Gaff addresses themes of millennial regret, centering on memories of past remarks and experiences from early adulthood. The lyrics reflect on conversations and statements made in one’s twenties that later cause discomfort or self-reproach.

The track was recorded at The Clinic Studio and produced by Hugh O’Dwyer, who has worked with Morgana, Spies, and Neil Dexter. O’Dwyer also contributed bass to the recording. The song features Michael Fleming (Hitmachine) on drums and Aidan Given on guitar.

Regarding the song, Darragh McCauley stated that the initial inspiration came from a guitar riff that led to the line, “I’m not the guy you met at parties.” He described the song as an exploration of past social interactions and remarks that later evoke a sense of regret.

Darragh McCauley began producing music under the name Mayfield Sound in March 2024. He learned to use Ableton in his thirties and started recording and releasing his work during the pandemic. In the past year, the project has performed at the Night and Day Festival in Roscommon, appearing alongside Ash, Morgana, and Chalk, and has also headlined a sold-out show at BelloBar.
