Canadian quintet records third album live in Nanaimo basement with comedian Stewart Lee cameo

EarthBall will release their third album Outside Over There on November 7th through Upset The Rhythm. The Canadian quintet recorded the eight tracks live in a Nanaimo basement during 2024, with drummer John Brennan handling the mix and John Dieterich from Deerhoof mastering the material.

The opening track “100%” incorporates audio from comedian Stewart Lee, who granted permission for the band to use fragments of his stand-up routine. John Olson from Wolf Eyes contributed liner notes, describing the record as “eight-track odyssey” that “unfolds like a dreamscape, where whispered incantations brush against the shadowy fringes of the cosmos.”

EarthBall formed when Isabel Ford, John Brennan, and Jeremy Van Wyck required a band name for a performance. The group has operated through complete improvisation since inception. Ford and Van Wyck perform together in multiple projects including Shearing Pinx, while Brennan maintains collaborations with John Dieterich, Greg Saunier from Deerhoof, and Chris Corsano. MacLaughlin works with KMVP and Ora Corgan, and saxophonist Murphy performs throughout the West Coast.

The band’s discography began with Fruiting Bodies, a 2021 cassette release through Misophonia Records UK. They followed with the self-released Go to Earth, then Have One in 2023 as digital and cassette formats. Their trajectory accelerated with It’s Yours in 2024, leading to tours across North America and the UK, including a sold-out London show at Café OTO. The live album Actual Earth Music Vol. 1 & 2 appeared in 2025
