Description: Edgar Wappenhalter's "Ijsschots Veenlaag Mist" is a folk album with Dutch lyrics, released Oct 9 on limited edition vinyl.

“Ijsschots Veenlaag Mist” marks a return to Wappenhalter‘s roots in gritty, reverb-laden folk music. The album integrates the poetic and electronic elements from his previous work into the song structures, creating a balanced collection of tracks. Notable songs on the album include “Hallusineren,” “Vogel rok diamant,” and the two-part “In het bos.”

The album serves as a homage to the Dutch poet Sonja Prins (1912–2009), which is reflected in the use of Dutch titles and lyrics. This release is the first from morc to feature exclusively Dutch lyrics. Instead of directly setting Prins‘s poems to music, Wappenhalter uses them as inspiration for his compositions. The album includes a guest vocal performance by Annelies Monseré from the band Luster. The original artwork for the album was created by Olivier Schrauwen, a comic book artist known for his distinctive visual style.

Edgar Wappenhalter, born Steve Marreyt, has been associated with morc tapes since 2000. He first appeared on a morc compilation with his initial band and later released solo projects through the John Merrick Band. His solo career evolved into the Edgar Wappenhalter persona, under which he has released three LPs. Wappenhalter has also contributed vocals and bass guitar to several releases by Annelies Monseré and was a founding member of the band Luster, which he recently rejoined after a hiatus. Beyond his work with morc, Marreyt co-founded Silvester Anfang and the Funeral Folk movement and managed the kraak label for several years.

The vinyl edition of “Ijsschots Veenlaag Mist” features a full-color foldout sleeve with original artwork by Olivier Schrauwen of Bries and Fantagraphics. The insert is risograph-printed by Wappenhalter himself. This limited edition release is part of morc’s catalog and is available through their official website.

“Ijsschots Veenlaag Mist” is recommended for listeners who appreciate artists and genres such as Lichens, Luster, Jessica Bailiff, Goldscammer, Troth, Blod, avant-folk, gritty drones, and 1990s four-track lo-fi recordings.
