Famous releases debut album Party Album

Eight years of experimentation culminate in Famous’ latest release

South London-based artist Famous releases his debut album, Party Album, through untitled (recs). The album has been in development for eight years and is described as a collection of nine love songs.

Title: Party Album
Artist: Famous
Release Date: 2024-10-11
Genres: Indie Rock, Psychedelic Rock
Label: untitled (recs)
Description: Famous releases Party Album after eight years, blending rock and experimental sounds across nine tracks led by Jack Merrett.

Party Album was recorded primarily at Konk Studios in North London, formerly used by The Kinks. The album’s sound evolved over a two-year period, beginning as demos in which Merrett played the Fender Rhodes. Initially conceived as a traditional rock record inspired by Peter Jackson’s Get Back, My Chemical Romance, and Judee Sill, the project eventually took a more experimental direction. Merrett commented that the band originally aimed for a classic rock sound, but the album’s progression led it in a different direction.

The album contains nine tracks, starting with the disorienting opener “Boxing Day.” The track “What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life” features a combination of heavy riffs, blast beats, and synthesizers, creating a blend of aggressive and melodic sounds. The album’s lead single, “God Hold You,” was released as a double A-side along with the track “It Goes On Forever,” and incorporates elements from post-hardcore and The Beach Boys.

The track “2004” is a re-recorded version of a fan favorite from Famous’ England EP. According to Merrett, the song remained in their live set for years and was re-recorded during a session in 2023. “Leaving Tottenham” offers a ballad-like contrast to the rest of the album, reflecting a personal experience from Merrett’s life.

The final track, “Love Will Find a Way,” features a violin performance by former band member Jerskin Fendrix.
