Forndom releases the album Moþir on December 6 through Nordvis Records

Forndom, the Swedish music project led by Ludvig Swärd, will release the album Moþir on December 6, 2024, through Nordvis Records. Presented in CD, LP, and digital formats, the album explores themes of life cycles, creation, and destruction, employing traditional acoustic sounds and eschewing modern influences.

The release continues Forndom’s exploration of Scandinavian traditions and mythology, drawing parallels between ancient beliefs and the cyclical nature of existence.

Moþir comprises seven tracks that focus on themes derived from Scandinavian mythology, the natural world, and human existence. The first single, “Tunridor,” inspired by two stanzas from the Hávamál, addresses themes of feminine power and mystical darkness. The song incorporates chanting of the Ís rune, symbolizing death and transformation, by Janne Posti (Häxkapell, Sons of Crom), alongside violin performances by Thomas von Wachenfeldt (Bards of Skaði) and contributions from Draugurinn, adding an atmospheric layer. “Tunridor” introduces Moþir’s exploration of divine ambiguity through the figure of witches, or tun riders. The single draws on the Hávamál’s tenth stanza, reflecting ideas of deceit and magical disruption. Swärd explains its connection to the Ís rune, a symbol of death, transformation, and curses. Events during the song’s creation—volcanic eruptions and displacement—were interpreted by Swärd as aligned with the rune’s transformative power.

The album was recorded and mixed by Swärd and includes a lineup of traditional instruments, acoustic arrangements, and choral elements. Swärd emphasizes the importance of silence and space in the music, describing it as integral to the listener’s experience.
