Forth Wanderers return with The Longer This Goes On after seven years of inactivity

Third Sub Pop album from Forth Wanderers lands this July

The Longer This Goes On, scheduled for release on 18 July 2025, is the third album by Forth Wanderers. Based in Montclair, New Jersey, the group had remained inactive since 2018, when their self-titled record was issued via Sub Pop. No official breakup followed, but each member moved on. The new record arrives without a formal announcement of reunion, and the band has stated that they do not consider it a restart.

Description: Forth Wanderers return with third album The Longer This Goes On, out 18 July 2025 via Sub Pop.

The album consists of ten tracks written and recorded across several years. Initial sessions began after Ava Trilling and Ben Guterl reconnected in 2021, following a long period without contact. Unlike earlier records, where Guterl would send instrumentals to Trilling for lyrics and vocal arrangements, the writing this time involved all five members from the beginning. The shift away from remote collaboration allowed for more structural flexibility and broader input. No label pressure accompanied the process.

The material moves between restrained, slow-developing pieces (Honey, Springboard), louder and more compressed sections (Barnard), and more open, folk-inflected tracks (Spit, Make Me).

Internal conversations around gender and group dynamics also resurfaced during the writing period. Trilling, the only woman in the band, had previously described a sense of isolation during earlier tours. The group reportedly confronted these issues directly this time, and several tracks were shaped through this reassessment.

Forth Wanderers first formed in 2013, releasing material through Double Double Whammy and Father/Daughter Records. Their early EP Tough Love (2014) and first full-length Slop (2016) circulated through DIY networks and campus radio. Trilling has also issued solo work. Guterl, who handled most of the writing in the band’s early period, is the son of musician Glenn Guterl.
