Ioa Beduneau releases debut album Mélodies pour Clairons through Marionette on 21st November
French electronic artist Ioa Beduneau has completed his first full-length record, Mélodies pour Clairons, which arrives via Marionette in November. The label has previously issued work by Valentina Magaletti, Burnt Friedman, Max Loderbauer, Soundwalk Collective, Pierre Bastien, Andrea Belfi and Jules Reidy.

The album contains six pieces constructed using modular synthesis, physical modeling techniques, and processes drawn from bioacoustics. Beduneau works with reimagined properties of the clairon, a medieval trumpet, manipulating air movement, pressure and resonance within the synthesis environment. The material also incorporates synthesized bird calls, pipe and bell tones, and textural elements that function as ASMR stimuli.
The record was developed during the pandemic and functions in part as documentation of that period. The title refers both to the instrument itself and to a person with whom the music was shared. Beduneau begins his process on paper before translating concepts into sound.
Beduneau is based in the south of France and works across electronic music, electroacoustic composition, and installation. He builds DIY electronics and self-playing systems. His practice engages with ethnomusicology, bioacoustics, and quantum physics, as well as disability culture and the reclamation of the term “crip.”
His interests extend to deep listening theory, developed by Pauline Olivieros, and he has cited Kilchhofer, Nicolas Jaar and Rashad Becker as reference points. He has performed in France and Belgium and composed music for film. He has appeared on LYL Radio and Kiosk Radio.
Mélodies pour Clairons will be available on 180g vinyl and digital download.
