Whispered vocals, funk guitar and a abrasive solo make up the new Apology Kink single
Apology Kink returns with “Good Attention,” out September 11 via GIVE/TAKE, premiering today on retrofuturista.com. The song opens on watching and wanting: lyrics built around power and pleasure, delivered in a near-whisper, riding a tight, funk-inflected rhythm guitar. Machine drums and vintage synths do the heavy lifting underneath, thick and a little dirty, before a guitar solo cuts through and the hook locks in and refuses to let go. It’s a track that knows exactly what it wants and doesn’t waste time getting there.

Description: Apology Kink's new single "Good Attention" arrives via GIVE/TAKE on September 11, pairing disco guitar with lyrics about power and pleasure.
Producer Garrett Neal, whose credits include Holidae and productions for HBO and MTV, also turned in a separate mix: a French electro dance version that pushes the song’s disco side forward, stacking dubbed-out vocals over gratifying funk bass and synth lines.
Apology Kink summed up the song’s angle plainly: “Good Attention is for the pleasure doms, service tops, and everyone who uses power to create connection, not exert control.“
Apology Kink is Augustus Watkins, previously heard under the names Bijou Noir, Tulip Tiger, and DEATHDANCE. Based in Los Angeles, the project introduced itself in February 2024 with a cover of Pet Shop Boys‘ “West End Girls,” then followed with the originals “Cult of Your Touch” and “Let Me Be Your Heartthrob,” both made with Garrett Neal.
