Post-punk and techno influences define new Gogol Bordello album
Gogol Bordello will release their new studio album, We Mean It, Man!, on February 13, 2026, via Eugene Hütz’s Casa Gogol Records. Co-produced by Nick Launay and Adam “Atom” Greenspan, known for their work with Nick Cave, Gang of Four, and IDLES, the record consists of twelve tracks that integrate electronic synthesis and gated-drum rhythms with the band’s established punk and hardcore foundations.
In our interview with Gogol Bordello, frontman Eugene Hütz described the record as a “post-punk groove revenge,” framed as a reaction to his own “more is more” temperament. Hütz stated: “Intellectually, I understand that less is more… But at the same time, I am the ‘more is more’ kind of person. So partly this album is a kind of revenge against ‘more is more’ and towards ‘less is more,’ to see what happens if you smash those two ideas together.”
The shift toward a more distilled sound—marked by the synthesizer work of multi-instrumentalist Erica Mancini—traces back to Hütz’s early interest in electronic music. “The first time I heard techno, I was like, ‘this is the new punk rock’, so it stayed with me. I implemented that in Gogol Bordello in its own way,” Hütz noted, referencing his time attending raves in Montreal and Vermont after moving from Ukraine. The 2023 session with Bernard Sumner served as a catalyst for this direction: “Doing the track together was kind of a gateway into this album. I felt the need to go into that direction because I realized how much is undone in that direction for me and for us as a band.”
Lyrically, the album addresses a perceived decline in societal focus. On the track “Life Is Possible Again,” Hütz commented: “It is actually a song about perseverance against all odds. People have either already given up, they’re just going with whatever the fuck is going on, or they’re just going with the flow.” He described the album’s spiritual intent as an effort to “collect people together who are still capable of some focus and critical thinking.”
Gogol Bordello will support the release with a North American tour starting February 13, 2026, including a performance at New York’s Knockdown Center on March 27.
