Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto announce limited edition live album release

hackedepicciotto, the collaborative project between Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto, has released a new track titled “Third From The Sun,” ahead of their forthcoming album The Best of hackedepicciotto (Live in Napoli). The album is set for release on 1 November 2024 through Mute Records, both digitally and on limited edition double vinyl, which will be limited to 500 copies and feature an exclusive signed print.

The new album compiles more than 20 years of the duo’s work, presenting live performances recorded at the historic Auditorium Novecento in Naples, one of Europe’s oldest recording studios. The track “Third From The Sun” is a reinterpretation from their 2020 release The Current, originally recorded in Blackpool, a coastal town in Lancashire, England.

The album The Best of hackedepicciotto (Live in Napoli) features what the duo calls Symphonic Drone, combining elements such as industrial rhythms, electronic tones, and classical harmonies. Their sound also incorporates unique components like throat singing, the Hurdy-gurdy, and spoken word. The album includes live versions of tracks spanning their entire career, with selections from their studio albums such as Keepsakes (2023), The Silver Threshold (2021), Perseverantia (2016), Menetekel (2017), and The Current (2020).

Alexander Hacke is a founding member of the influential German band Einstürzende Neubauten, known for his early experiments with cassette loops and unconventional sounds in the 1980s. He joined the band at the age of 14 and has played a key role in shaping their experimental approach, which has impacted musicians across various genres.

Danielle de Picciotto, an artist, filmmaker, and musician, co-founded the Berlin Love Parade in 1989, a key event in electronic music culture. She was also a member of The Space Cowboys, one of Berlin’s early crossover bands, and later collaborated with Gudrun Gut to create pioneering electronic music projects. Since 2001, Hacke and de Picciotto have collaborated on numerous audio-visual and multimedia performances, eventually adopting a nomadic lifestyle, which has deeply influenced their artistic output.

The duo will be touring Europe in November and December 2024, with performances scheduled in Italy, France, Sweden, Denmark, Greece, Slovakia, Germany, and more.
