Huge Molasses Tank Explodes is a psychedelic quartet from Milan, consisting of Fabrizio De Felice (vocals, guitar, synth), Giacomo Tota (guitar), Luca Umidi (bass), and Michele Schiavina (drums). The band’s name originates from the “Great Molasses Flood,” a catastrophic event in Boston on January 15, 1919, when a ruptured storage tank unleashed a destructive wave of molasses across the city.
The group debuted in 2017 with their self-titled album released through Flying Kids Records. This initial effort was characterized by raw garage rock influences, offering a more stripped-down sound. Their second album, II, released in 2020 via Retrovox Records, displayed a shift towards darker tones, integrating post-punk elements. With III, Huge Molasses Tank Explodes further refine their style, weaving krautrock-inspired repetition with shoegaze aesthetics and psychedelic experimentation.
