Hunter As a Horse Returns With “Paradise Lost” on Metropolis Records

Mia van Wyk Confronts the Shadow Self on New HAAH Single

Mia van Wyk records as Hunter As a Horse (HAAH) from the Western Cape, South Africa. The project has been running on self-released singles and EPs for several years, moving between dark electronics, dream-pop, nu-goth, and alternative dance without settling; the connective tissue is lyrical rather than sonic, with addiction, CPTSD, astral experience, and mortality treated as direct subject matter.

Description: Hunter As a Horse releases "Paradise Lost" on Metropolis Records. South African dark pop from Mia van Wyk, 2026.

“Paradise Lost” is the third single on Metropolis Records, where HAAH landed in early 2026. The song is about a particular psychological threshold: the point at which external judgment drops out entirely and something less socialized takes over. Van Wyk calls it the shadow self. The production is dense and pulsing, built for that kind of interior pressure. Loss of innocence here is not lamented but used, a foundation rather than a wound.

“Lighthouse” and “Here’s To All The Ones,” the two singles that came before it on the label, moved through related territory: electronic structures carrying mythology and low-level melancholy, neither track making much noise about what it was doing.

Van Wyk’s lyrics are more abrasive than either, rooted in biography rather than mood. Songs have appeared in “American Horror Story,” “Riverdale,” “Elite,” and the film “Wander Darkly,” as well as international advertising campaigns.
