Metropolis Records expands Norwegian trio’s 2000 debut with unreleased bonus material

Icon of Coil’s ‘Serenity Is The Devil’ arrives in expanded form via Metropolis Records, 25 years after the Norwegian act’s first full-length release.The reissue spans double vinyl in translucent orange alongside digital formats, with the previously unreleased ‘SEC FOUR’ joining the original ten tracks.

The album initially surfaced through Metropolis in North America during 2000, climbing to third position on Germany’s DAC Alternative Chart. This placement preceded the band’s commercial peak with ‘The Soul Is In The Software’, which would claim the chart’s top spot two years later.

Andy LaPlegua founded Icon of Coil in 1997 as a solo venture before expanding the lineup. Sebastian Komor joined in 1999, followed by Christian Lund in 2000, establishing the trio that would define the project’s most active period. LaPlegua later created Combichrist, while Komor pursued production work with various electronic acts. The band’s output merged synthesized melodies with club-oriented rhythms across four studio albums before members shifted focus to individual projects in the mid-2000s.

The remastered edition preserves the original sequence while adding ‘SEC FOUR’, a track that remained in the vault since the album’s creation.
