Drag City set to release Prison’s album Downstate this January

Prison, featuring a line-up that includes Sarim Al-Rawi, Matt Lilly, and Paul Major, has announced the release of a new single, “In The Tall Grass / Made For You,” from the forthcoming album Downstate. The album will be released on January 31, 2025, through Drag City. To mark the release, a performance is scheduled at Union Pool in Brooklyn on February 6, 2025, with supporting acts Cool Whip and Peace Sign.

Downstate represents Prison’s second studio album and features an expanded roster of contributors. In addition to the core members, the line-up includes guitarist Adam Reich, bassist Matt Leibowitz, and trombonist Dave Smoota Smith. Recorded with contributions from the late Sam Jayne, the album explores a wide range of soundscapes, integrating guitars, drums, and layered vocals.

Prison completed their first West Coast tour earlier this year before returning to New York. The new album follows their previous release, continuing their progression as a collective with contributions from a mix of long-time collaborators and newer participants.
