First new Iron & Wine material since Light Verse hits June 10
Iron & Wine has released Robin’s Egg, the first new material since the 2023 album Light Verse, which received a Grammy nomination in 2024. The track features vocal contributions from I’m With Her, the trio formed by Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan, and Sara Watkins. The single is available now on all major streaming platforms via Sub Pop.
Written and produced by Sam Beam, Robin’s Egg was completed earlier this year with the vocal trio in mind. According to Beam, the collaboration took shape as plans for a joint summer tour were already underway. The track will lend its name to the upcoming Robin’s Egg Tour, which begins in July and will include a return to the Newport Folk Festival. A video for the single, created by animator Lizi Breit, is available online.
The track follows Light Verse, which included the duet All in Good Time featuring Fiona Apple, also nominated at the 2024 Grammys. After the album’s release, Iron & Wine maintained a consistent live schedule. In addition to the tour with I’m With Her, Beam is set to perform throughout the rest of the year, including co-headlining dates with longtime collaborators Band of Horses.
Iron & Wine is the recording project of Sam Beam, active since the early 2000s. Beam released his debut album The Creek Drank the Cradle in 2002 through Sub Pop, followed by multiple records including Our Endless Numbered Days (2004), The Shepherd’s Dog (2007), and Beast Epic (2017). His work spans folk, indie rock, and Americana, and includes collaborations with artists such as Calexico, Ben Bridwell, and Jesca Hoop.
I’m With Her formed in 2014 and released their debut album See You Around in 2018. All three members have separate solo careers: Sarah Jarosz is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who won multiple Grammy Awards; Aoife O’Donovan has released albums as a solo artist and with Crooked Still; and Sara Watkins is a founding member of Nickel Creek and part of Watkins Family Hour. Their most recent release is the 2024 album Wild and Clear and Blue.
