New solo LP by Jah Wobble out 18 July via Dimple Discs
Jah Wobble will release Dub Volume 1 through Dimple Discs on 18 July 2025. The record is entirely self-produced, written, and performed, with all instrumentation and arrangements handled by Wobble. It follows a loosely continuous series of self-directed dub recordings issued over the past two decades through various independent platforms, but this is his first collaboration with the London-based label.

The eight-track album was mastered by Anthony Chapman (Collapsed Lung) and pressed on clear vinyl with yellow and red colour drops. The packaging features artwork by Wobble himself, who has increasingly incorporated painting into his output since the 2010s.
Titles on the album include Existential Dub, Losing All Sense Of Balance Dub, and Old Jewish East End Of London Dub. The material draws heavily on tape delay, reverb and restructured rhythmic cycles associated with early dub production. While Dub Volume 1 was not recorded with collaborators, Wobble has previously referenced King Tubby and Lee “Scratch” Perry as central to his approach.
Jah Wobble (born John Joseph Wardle, London, 1958) first came to attention as the original bassist in Public Image Ltd (1978–1980), contributing to First Issue and Metal Box. He departed the band citing creative and financial disputes, and launched a solo career that included extensive collaborative work. In the 1980s and 1990s, he released material with Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit of Can, The Edge (U2), and François Kevorkian.
His later projects include Jah Wobble’s Invaders of the Heart, the industrial group The Damage Manual (with Martin Atkins, Geordie Walker, and Chris Connelly), and the 2008 record Chinese Dub, produced with his partner Zi Lan Liao, a guzheng player and harpist. In 2011, he collaborated with Julie Campbell (LoneLady) on Psychic Life.
Wobble reunited with Keith Levene in 2012 to record Yin & Yang and perform Metal Box In Dub live, a series later extended with guitarist Jon Klein after Levene’s death in 2022. His numerous credits also include recordings with Pharoah Sanders, Björk, Brian Eno, Massive Attack, Sinéad O’Connor, Ginger Baker, and Baaba Maal.
His autobiography Memoirs of a Geezer was published in 2009 by Serpent’s Tail.
