Jesse Daniel Edwards releases Requiem Mass / Catechism En Masse on Cavity Search Records

Jesse Daniel Edwards questions systems and silence in his new double EP

Jesse Daniel Edwards will release Requiem Mass / Catechism En Masse across two digital EPs—Requiem Mass on 27 June and Catechism En Masse on 25 July—followed by a combined LP issued by Cavity Search Records, also on 25 July. For the first time in his solo output, Edwards involved outside musicians during the recording sessions, departing from the fully self-performed approach of earlier releases. Recording took place over an extended period, with emphasis on live studio interaction.

Description: Jesse Daniel Edwards releases Requiem Mass Catechism En Masse on July 25 via Cavity Search Records as a two-part digital and vinyl LP.

The track titles reference institutional language and religious frameworks. “Fine Print,” “Biting Off the Hand That Feeds,” and “How Do You Keep Your Hands So Clean?” address bureaucracy, consumption, and culpability. Religious and corporate references appear throughout, including “I Don’t Wanna Be Good (I Wannabe God)” and “Ads You Can Really Taste.” Other titles include “The Future Has Been Canceled,” “Power of Us,” and “Nobody’s Problem.”

The release is structured around a conceptual pairing: Requiem Mass and Catechism En Masse. The material was written during a period of social and political uncertainty, according to Edwards, and recorded with the intent of reflecting a broader collective experience rather than a strictly autobiographical one.

Edwards was born in Cuyamaca, California, and raised in a conservative religious household. After leaving home, he supported himself by busking across the United States and Europe. His early recordings focused on Americana, with later work adopting more theatrical and experimental arrangements. His 2023 album Violensia featured piano-led compositions, while his 2025 self-titled LP was recorded live to 2-track tape in Memphis. He has worked with producer Joe Chiccarelli and has performed alongside Lucinda Williams, John Prine, and members of The Strokes. He currently lives in Nashville.

Requiem Mass / Catechism En Masse is available digitally and on vinyl via Cavity Search Records.
