Stump Bassist Kev Hopper Returns With XiX on Dimple Discs

Stump bassist Kev Hopper has issued his fifteenth solo album through Dimple Discs. XiX operates around Euclidean rhythm structures while maintaining the melodic sensibilities that have persisted through his post-Stump output since 1990.

Description: Stump bassist Kev Hopper releases XiX, electronic surrealist pop album on Dimple Discs. Digital August 22, vinyl October 24, 2025.

The twelve tracks span instrumental compositions and vocal pieces that address subjects from prawn preparation to economic deterioration. Hopper emerged from Stump, the Irish-English experimental group formed in London in 1983, which disbanded after their 1988 album A Fierce Pancake. His subsequent projects included electronica work with Ticklish and minimal pulse music with Prescott, formed in 2012 with Scritti Politti keyboardist Rhodri Marsden and drummer Frank Byng, later adding Pere Ubu guitarist Keith Moliné in 2016.

XiX contains musique concrète elements alongside modified vocal processing and sampling techniques.

The release appears simultaneously in digital format today, with physical editions on LP and CD scheduled for October. Hopper recorded and produced the material between Whitstable and London. His visual art practice runs parallel to his musical output, and he maintains the HopperArts YouTube channel for artist interviews.

Born in 1961, Hopper‘s solo discography began with Stolen Jewels in 1990 and has included releases such as Whispering Foils, Spoombung, and Kevlington. His approach consistently incorporates prepared bass techniques alongside electronic manipulation and found sound elements.
