Khana Bierbood Announces Second Album ‘Monolam’ Set for Release on October 25 via Guruguru Brain

Thai band Khana Bierbood has announced their second studio album, titled Monolam, scheduled for release on October 25 through Guruguru Brain. Alongside the announcement, the band has released the first single from the album, “Fi Rak Sanae-ha,” which is accompanied by a music video available online.

Formed around 2012, Khana Bierbood is a six-member band originating from Bangsaen, a coastal sub-district in Thailand. The group was established by university friends who shared an interest in Western psychedelic music from the 1960s and 1970s. As they began creating music, they noticed similarities between their sound and traditional Thai genres such as Luk Thung and Lao Molam, which blend funk and rock and roll elements. Their music often incorporates generational stories and cultural experiences, infused with subtle humor.

In 2019, the band released their debut album, Strangers From The Far East, which introduced their fusion of Thai musical styles with psychedelic rock influences.

Recorded in 2023 at TMM Studios in Bangkok, Monolam—a term meaning unique in sound and style—marks Khana Bierbood‘s second studio album. Go Kurosawa of Kikagaku Moyo, associated with Guruguru Brain, collaborated with the band during the recording process. The album retains the rock and roll elements of their previous work while exploring a more nuanced psychedelic sound. The lyrics draw from the band’s personal experiences and stories from Thai films and dramas, addressing themes such as love, loss, and adventure.

First Single: “Fi Rak Sanae-ha”

The lead single, “Fi Rak Sanae-ha,” translates to “Fire, Love and Enchanted” and is described by the band as a song about toxic love. The track incorporates elements of Thai Lae, a minimalist musical style traditionally used by monks to convey Buddhist scriptures. The official music video for the song is available on YouTube.
