Description: King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard release Flight b741, their 26th studio album, on 9 August 2024, marking their first album under p(doom) Records.
Following the release of their 25th studio album, The Silver Cord, on 27 October 2023, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard hinted at future projects through a social media post. On 6 May 2024, the band announced the creation of their new label, p(doom) Records, named after a concept in artificial intelligence known as P(doom). During their European tour in 2024, several tracks from Flight b741 were performed live prior to the album’s official announcement.
The album’s creation was rooted in jam sessions and features a style reminiscent of their 2019 album Fishing for Fishies. The band aimed for a collaborative approach during the recording process, with each member contributing songs and ideas. Lead vocalist Stu Mackenzie described the album as dealing with significant themes, though it maintains an upbeat and enjoyable atmosphere. The record also emphasizes multiple lead vocalists, with each member taking turns to sing their parts.
The cover art for Flight b741 was designed by Jason Galea. It depicts a wooden airplane piloted by eight pigs, which were handcrafted from clay. According to Galea, the airplane featured on the cover is a model, carefully constructed to complement the album’s theme.
Tour is starting next week.
