The band, consisting of Sade Sanchez (guitar/vocals), Irita Pai (bass), and Ellie English (drums), recorded the album in Paris, stepping beyond their previous geographic and creative boundaries. The album explores themes related to spirituality, submission, and unwavering devotion, reflected in both its lyrics and sound.

According to Sanchez, the title is a palindrome merging “DOG” and “GOD,” referencing ideas of submission and divinity. She describes the album as an exploration of devotion and the willingness to endure suffering in the pursuit of love.

The single “777” is characterized by a rhythmic drive, layers of guitar effects, and a blend of punk and motorik influences. Sanchez described the song as addressing themes of loyalty and sacrifice, explaining that the number 777 is considered an “angel” number. The track was among the band’s preferred recordings from the album and will be performed live during their upcoming tour.

The album incorporates elements of post-punk, garage rock, and gothic influences. Opening track “Icicle” transitions from the band’s earlier influences in proto-punk and psychedelia to the melancholic sounds associated with bands like Joy Division and The Cure. “Kiss Me Deep” extends this exploration with themes of love transcending lifetimes, while “I Hunt You Pray” combines krautrock rhythms with narrative-driven lyrics. “Eyes of Love” introduces meditative repetition and deconstructed chords, and “The Lines” integrates post-punk structures with chorus-heavy guitar effects. The title track, DOGGOD, aligns most closely with the band’s previous album, Play With Fire, though it continues the album’s central themes of devotion and submission.

Tour Information

L.A. Witch will embark on a tour in support of DOGGOD, beginning in Sacramento on April 19, 2025. The tour includes stops across the United States and Canada, with DAIISTAR supporting on select dates. Additional performances will feature Chokecherry.
