L.A. Witch has announced the release of their upcoming album, DOGGOD, set to be available on April 4 through Suicide Squeeze Records. Ahead of the album, the band has released a new single, “The Lines,” accompanied by a music video featuring ASL interpreter and dancer Lark Detweiler.

The single “The Lines” incorporates a driving bassline and heavy percussion, combined with sharp, wiry guitar elements. In the chorus, Sade Sanchez delivers lyrics that reference themes of alignment and uncertainty. The music video, directed by Sydney Mills, presents an ASL interpretation of the lyrics by Lark Detweiler, who explores the meaning of “lines” in multiple ways, such as boundaries, trajectories, and human connections. According to the director, the performance conveys emotions that go beyond verbal expression, integrating movement as a form of communication.
DOGGOD marks a shift in L.A. Witch‘s approach, incorporating new production techniques and expanding their sonic palette. Sanchez noted that the band experimented with effects such as chorus, flanger, and string machines like the Solina and Roland VP-330. The album was recorded at Motorbass Studio in Paris, moving away from the band’s traditional recording locations.
Lyrically, the album explores themes related to devotion, submission, and existential struggles. Sanchez described the title as a reference to the intertwined nature of servitude and reverence, drawing a connection between dogs and the concept of unwavering loyalty. The palindrome “DOGGOD” symbolizes both purity and subversion, addressing societal perceptions of subordination.
L.A. Witch is composed of Sade Sanchez (guitar, vocals), Irita Pai (bass), and Ellie English (drums). Initially formed as an informal project, the band developed a style that combines elements of post-punk, psychedelic rock, and garage music. Their previous releases include their self-titled debut album and Play With Fire, both of which showcased a stripped-down approach to rock music. With DOGGOD, the group introduces a broader range of influences and recording techniques while maintaining the core elements of their sound.
Tour Dates
L.A. Witch will embark on a North American tour to support DOGGOD, with performances scheduled across the United States and Canada. The tour includes stops in major cities such as Portland, Vancouver, Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn, and Los Angeles. Select dates will feature support from DAIISTAR and Chokecherry.
