The ten-track album follows a period of production at the group’s studio in Ljubljana, utilizing a range of equipment including analogue synthesizers and digital applications. The recording process involved various contributors, among them frequent collaborator Donna Marina Mårtensson. Production credits on the lead track, Allgorhythm, include Richard X, a producer recognized for work with Sugababes, Goldfrapp, and New Order. The track features vocals from Ghanaian performer Wiyaala. Prior to its release, the song was considered by the Slovenian state broadcaster RTV as a candidate for the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, though the broadcaster later withdrew from the event.
The title MUSICK refers to the current volume of digital production, citing the daily upload of over 100,000 tracks and the prevalence of AI-generated content. Discussing the mechanisms of modern engagement, the group told us in a recent interview that algorithmic control is effectively replacing traditional ideology, describing these systems as the “new iconography of power.” The material references genres such as K-pop, J-pop, and 1990s Eurodance, while maintaining the group’s internal historical stylistic framework. MUSICK will be available on vinyl, CD, and digital formats.
Laibach formed in June 1980 in the industrial town of Trbovlje, then part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The group was a founding member of the Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK) collective, established in 1984. Throughout their four-decade history, the personnel has shifted, with Milan Fras and Ivan Novak remaining consistent figures in the group’s public output. Their discography includes the 1987 album Opus Dei, which featured covers of Queen and Opus, and the 1988 cover of the entire Beatles album Let It Be. In 2015, the collective performed in Pyongyang, North Korea, an event documented in the film Liberation Day. Their work frequently incorporates industrial, neoclassical, and electronic elements, often utilizing martial rhythms and found sounds.
