Release Date: 2025-07-30
Genres: Ambient, Drone, Experimental Music
Label: AD 93: The Forefront of Experimental Electronic Music
Description: feeo issues digital single The Mountain on AD 93 30 July 2025, mixing ambient drone, minimal electronics and poetic vocal expression.

The Mountain unfolds through sparse electronic textures, with a restrained pulse shaped by drone and ambient structures. Over this minimal frame, Laird’s voice moves between spoken phrases and melodic fragments. The lyrics compare the narrator to a natural setting, drawing contrasts between order and chaos, peace and brutality. The song develops around this tension, avoiding dramatic peaks while remaining tightly focused on its atmosphere.

Laird describes the piece as one of solitude, situating the perspective of an individual against the larger forces of the environment. Rather than a grand statement, the track holds to a narrow frame, where the human voice is placed inside an electronic space that never fully resolves.

Outside of her solo work, Laird is part of Crosspiece with Caius Williams and participates in the GRAIN Residency, a program centered on improvised and experimental music. Her practice often dismantles standard song structures, incorporating improvised elements and phonetic experimentation. Past performances include appearances with Mica Levi, Tirzah, John T. Gast, and Contour.

The Mountain will be available digitally on AD 93 from 30 July 2025.
