The Valentines’ new EP includes a co-write with The Psychedelic Furs’ John Ashton

US dream-pop duo Magic Wands have issued a new EP, Wishing Well, on 24 April via Metropolis Records. The release gathers six tracks: the singles ‘Sacred Mirrors‘ and ‘Wishing Well’, a remastered version of the 2024 single ‘Hide’, a remix of ‘Golden’ taken from the 2025 album Cascades, and two previously unreleased songs, ‘Starline’ and ‘Yesterday’s Dream’.

On ‘Starline’, the band describe the song as a tension between fear and surrender, organised around the lines “will you run” and “can I stay?”, arriving at the phrase “nothing left but love”.

The duo formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in summer 2008, after Chris Valentine found Dexy’s song “Teenage Love” and the two got in touch. Dexy moved from Los Angeles to Nashville, and the pair began writing together. The band’s name came from a magic wand that Chris sent to Dexy while they were living on opposite coasts. Their first single, ‘Black Magic’, was released on 7″ vinyl in 2008 by Ark Recordings. The debut EP, Magic Love & Dreams, came out on Bright Antenna in 2009, recorded in New York with producer John Hill. The debut album Aloha Moon followed in 2012. The duo later relocated to Los Angeles, where they recorded Jupiter, issued by Cleopatra Records on 26 February 2016. Their third album, Abrakadabra, appeared on Argentine label Casa Del Puente Discos on 18 May 2018, alongside the self-released digital compilation Portals.

Their most recent album, Cascades, was released in October 2025.
