Warsaw-born composer collaborates with goat (jp) flutist on eight-track cassette and digital release
Magda Drozd releases Divided By Dusk on 13th February 2026 through Präsens Editionen. The eight-track album combines ambient composition, violin, field recordings, and elements drawn from Polish folklore with contributions from Japanese flutist Rai Tateishi of Osaka group goat (jp).

The work developed following Drozd’s visits to Japan, where she collaborated with Tateishi and electronic producer Koshiro Hino, both members of goat (jp), a band signed to EM Records and Latency. These encounters coincided with Drozd’s investigation into Polish folk music traditions and pre-Christian historical material. The album assembles dark ambient passages, violin textures, chants, and folk melodic fragments without adhering to conventional song structures.
‘Eclipse’ opens the record with overlapping tonal layers. The title track uses lyrics and melody to address memory and displacement. ‘Contrasts’ incorporates harmonic shifts informed by Japanese ritual music and ambient practices. ‘Rounds’ features Tateishi performing on shinobue, a bamboo flute used in Japanese traditional music, and khaen, a Southeast Asian mouth organ.
‘Piosenka Ludowa’, Polish for ‘folk song’, interprets a folkloric motif without strict adherence to its original form. ‘Hungry Nightmares’ follows with denser material. ‘Vertigo’ employs sustained vibration and low-frequency content. ‘From the Depths’ closes the album with a reworked Polish folk song, fragmenting its melody and text.
Magda Drozd was born in Warsaw in 1987. She works as a composer, violinist, and sound artist based in Zürich and London. Präsens Editionen issued her previous solo albums Songs for Plants (2019), 18 Floors (2021), and Viscera (2023). She has released material on Hallow Ground’s compilation Epiphanies and on Flaming Pines for Salomé Voegelin‘s concept album Cassette Album. She operates Rivercore, a label for experimental music. With Nicola Genovese, she formed the duo Sopraterra, whose LP Seven Dances to Embrace the Hollow appeared on Präsens Editionen and La Becque Editions in 2025. Her work has received coverage from The Wire, The Quietus, BBC Radio 6 Music, NTS Radio, Spex, self-titled Magazine, Fact Mag, Ransom Note, and Boomkat. She has performed in Switzerland, Europe, Asia, and South Africa.
Präsens Editionen operates from Switzerland. Established in 2011 during the launch of magazine zweikommasieben, the label releases music on vinyl, cassette, CD, and digital formats, alongside magazines, books, and printed matter. Its roster includes Swiss artists Martina Lussi, Samuel Savenberg, Belia Winnewisser, Remo Helfenstein, Samuel Reinhard, and Sopraterra, plus international acts Anna Homler, Red On, NY Graffiti, and Andrea Taeggi.
